How to Verify Car Registration Online in Pakistan (MTMIS)

MTMIS — the Motor Transport Management Information System — is an online vehicle-registration verification service operated by Punjab's Excise, Taxation & Narcotics Control Department in partnership with the Punjab Information Technology Board. It lets you look up basic registration information for a vehicle using its registration number.

Other provinces run their own equivalent registration and excise systems, so confirm which system applies to the vehicle's actual province of registration before relying on any single portal.

The workflow is straightforward, but accuracy depends on entering the registration number exactly as it appears on the vehicle's documents — including the correct format for the issuing city or district code.

If the make, model, registration city, engine or chassis details returned by MTMIS do not match the vehicle or the seller's documents, stop the transaction until the discrepancy is explained and verified through the excise and taxation department directly — do not accept a verbal explanation as a substitute for confirmation from the authority.

A mismatch does not automatically mean fraud; registration records can lag behind a recent transfer. But it is exactly the kind of unresolved question that should be settled before any payment, not after.

The most frequent issue is an incorrectly entered registration number — double-check the letters, numbers and city code before assuming the system has no record. If the portal is unavailable or returns an error, try again later or contact the excise and taxation department directly rather than treating a technical error as proof either way.

If the vehicle is registered in a different province than expected, use that province's own verification system instead of assuming Punjab's MTMIS covers it.
